Write a letter/ read a book week 5 day 1

I love getting mail... don't you?  My girls love getting letters. I have tried to explain to them that the only way to get letters is to write letters. Katie has a correspondence she has carried on with some girls she met on a cruise 6 years ago. Hannah has tried to begin correspondence with a few relatives, but most people aren't tuned in to writing and don't write back or  she lets it slack off after a while.

***Warning -- story from childhood alert ***** I am old enough to remember when it was a BIG DEAL to talk long distance on the phone. If my mom got a long distance call on our party line (yeah that, too) she would make us all be quiet because it was a LONG DISTANCE CALL. I always wrote to my grandmother and still do, but now it is somewhat because she is so hard of hearing it is difficult to talk to her on the phone.  Now it is not a BIG  DEAL. It is virtually free. And then there is the internet and email, which for sure are quick and easy, but isn't it nice to get a letter? I know it is more instant to email or phone, but more fun to get a letter.

I have a box of love letters from John when he couldn't live without me. What will my girls have? A box of love texts and emails?

Before I made cards, I bought engraved note cards and sent letters on this. I like the cards better because it a way to put even more of my style into it.  You don't even have to say much, but it means a lot.

So fellow scrapbookers and card makers, can you think of someone who would enjoy a letter?
I challenge you to drop a letter to someone to suprise them and brighten their day. Why not make a family project of a pen pal? An older relative who is more isolated? Someone who just needs a word of encouragement? You may or may not get something in return, but that is not the point is it?

Also, I just tried something for the first time and i want to share my new discovery with my dear readers. Many of you know I love to read and can read a book a day. in the last three days i have indeed read three books. But many of you know I am also cheap. I have not been reading as much lately because I just don't want to spend the money on something i will consume so quickly. to me it is like putting a restaurant meal on a credit card. And those of you who live in Blairsville know that our local library has all the best sellers, from 1964. I prefer non fiction and only once in the many years I have gone there have I found the book I wanted.... no exageration. The last time i went in there I inquired about getting books from other libraries and they told me about the PINES system, where I could log in and search for a book and have it delivered to this library FROM HOME.  I will say it takes a little doing to set up the account and learn the navigation of the system, but it does work and is actually easier to search than the system in the library. There is a lag time on the availability of new books, but I can wait. If you love to read and are frustrated like me, give it a try.

I have done that with the library and I LOVE it. I have 4 or 5 books on hold right now....of course, they have been on hold for a couple of months and I have yet to see them.

And for the record, John may not write the notes now, but he still couldn't live without you.

I still have Dick's love letters, and he saved all mine, but we'd better burn them before we cock up our toes! You know Amy would love to read them...hehe Actually, they would be considered pretty boring in all likelihood.

I tagged the group photo, so go back and take a look. And yes, I have two elderly aunts who need cards and that has been on my mind. Good reminder to quit thinking and JUST DO IT!

As much as I rely on email, there is something special about a handwritten letter. About a year ago, a friend of my mother's sent me some letters my mother had written her before I was born - one describing my dad when they got engaged, and one written about a week before my birth. What treasures those are to me!
I need to get some cards made/sent, too - good reminder.
Hugs...

Fabulous idea. I think I'll post it as a challenge on my blog. My daughter (10) has recently shown an interest in my love of stamping so I think I'll easily be able to convince her. I had a 2nd cousin as a penpal growing up and it was one of the best things I remember about my childhood. Thanks for the reminder!

There have were times of troubles when I didn't know about opportunities of getting high yields on investments. I was a dump and downright stupid person.
I have never imagined that there weren't any need in large initial investment.
Now, I'm happy and lucky , I begin to get real money.
It gets down to select a correct companion who uses your money in a right way - that is incorporate it in real business, parts and divides the profit with me.
