Great news! The orthopedic doctor took me out of the Darth Vader boot and put me in a lace up
brace and told me I can walk and drive and do whatever I want. Katie Has graciously agreed to take me to practice driving this weekend or early next week. She says she will sit in the passenger seat and cover her eyes and hold the handle like I did when I took her driving. Once I can do that, I am free!!
I have tried walking on the brace. I still need a crutch, but I am determined to do it. I can only go short distances (bedroom to living room), but It will get better as I do it. I am not sure how much weight I am putting on it, but will measure today. Also, more good news... I didn't gain weight. Didn't lose, but didn't gain either, which I think is great due to the inactivity.
So today I am going to walk, bathe and do my excercises. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter!
A funny thing happened yesterday. John went into Kroger to get me some sale items I had coupons for and when he came out and I checked the register receipt ( yes I always check), they had given him the senior citizen discount without asking. He was so mad he wanted to go back in and give them the 5% back. We laughed and laughed. I told him I am cheaper than I am proud and I told him I will send him in to get all my groceries!
We feel like senior citizens,though, as he drove me to my doctor's appts yesterday....

You know, that senior discount thing has happened to me - I figure if the clerks don't ask me, and jump to the wrong conclusion (it's the premature gray hair!) then I'll take the discount! I didn't lie to them! And some places do give it at 50. (which is not "senior" to me!)
Anyway, congrats on losing the Darth Vader boot and gaining some freedom. Progress is being made!

You'll definitely take a discount any way you can! I see an old lady wig in your future to do... Sounds like you and Katie are trying the role-reversal thing early. Glad you got such great news from the doc and the new shoe to boot.
